Now that the holidays are over, you’ve probably put away all of your fancy porcelain serving bowls and dinner plates. That’s always a bummer. But January in Melbourne doesn’t have to be a downer. Why not make this the time to get out some other porcelain?
At Implant Dentistry of Florida, Dr. Brown and our team love to use the finest dental porcelain for porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers can give you a perfect smile for the New Year.
What are porcelain veneers?
Veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are applied to the front sides of the visible teeth. You can think of them as akin to veneers used with furniture, where a thin piece of high-grade wood is used to cover lesser wood beneath. Porcelain veneers are a cosmetic treatment, meaning they don’t address underlying problems with the teeth. Issues such as decay or gum disease need to be treated before we can apply veneers.
What cosmetic problems can veneers cover?
No one has perfect teeth. You may have a small chip or a gap between a couple of teeth. We love veneers because they cover these kinds of flaws and present a perfect smile. Here are some issues we cover with veneers at the Implant Dentistry of Florida.
- Gaps between teeth
- Chips
- Deeply stained teeth (tetracycline reactions, etc.)
- Small cracks
- Alignment problems
- Misshapen teeth
Why porcelain?
Some dentists use composite resin for veneers, but Dr. Brown only uses dental porcelain at his practice. We believe dental porcelain is very close to the subtle translucence and reflection of natural tooth enamel. Also, porcelain is very strong, durable, and highly resistant to staining.
Placing veneers
In order to have veneers, we first need to shave a small amount of your natural tooth enamel from the fronts of the teeth to receive veneers. This makes room for the veneers on the teeth. We then take impressions and send these to the dental lab to use when creating your custom veneers. When they are ready you return to our Melbourne offices and we check the color match and fit of your veneers. Then we cement them onto your teeth. Now you have a perfect, bright smile for all to see.
