What Are “Traditional” Dentures?

We use this term to describe what most people think of as dentures: a set of removable teeth for those who have lost all their teeth in one or both arches of the mouth. Traditional dentures are placed in your mouth without any kind of anchor, sit on the gums, and are held in by suction. Most dentures require the use of adhesive for a secure fit. Alternatives to traditional dentures are implant-supported dentures and fixed dentures.

A partial denture is used if there are still some natural teeth present in the arch. Like a traditional denture, it sits on the gums and is removable, and replaces any missing teeth in the arch. It can be clipped around the remaining natural teeth to help keep it secure, but still may require the use of dental adhesive. Alternatives to partial dentures are fixed bridges and implant bridges.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Dentures can often slip and slide due to loss of bone support and movement of the tongue when talking and eating. This movement is often painful and frustrating, can be embarrassing, and is not eliminated with denture adhesives. We are happy to offer our patients a solution! Implants are an excellent way to secure loose dentures and restore your confidence. Placing implants in the jawbone allows the implant denture to snap on and off, which prevents slipping and sliding and eliminates the need for denture adhesive. We handle everything from implant placement to denture fabrication in our office and our on-site lab.

Implant Bridge

Dental implants are ideal for replacing any number of lost teeth. Just as a bridge can be fixed in place on natural teeth, two or more implants can be strategically placed and used as the foundation to support a fixed bridge when several teeth in a row are missing. The implant bridge is made of porcelain, looks like natural teeth, fills in gaps, and never has to be removed. Implant bridges can replace anything from a few missing teeth to all the teeth in the arch. We utilize CEREC technology and our own laboratory to handle the entire process from implant placement to bridge fabrication, so there’s no need to be referred to another office or wait weeks for your bridge to be fabricated.

Fixed Dentures

For those who would like to eliminate the need to remove and replace their teeth, a fixed denture is the best solution. Implants are placed throughout the arch and the denture is secured tightly to them. Only your dentist can remove them!

Full-Arch Dental Implants

For those who are facing the loss of all their natural teeth or want to say goodbye to a removable denture, full-arch dental implants are a wonderful solution. Enjoy eating a full variety of foods again, just as you did with your natural teeth. Because these bridges are attached to implants, and do not rest on the gum tissue, they are as comfortable and secure as they are beautiful! Schedule your complimentary implant consultation and find out if you’re a candidate for full-arch dental implants.
